Sister Spotlight: From stuck professional to confident investor
A doctor and mother who grew up believing all investing was haram, Amina shares what four years of consistent, faith-aligned investing has taught her.
In our Sister Spotlight series, we share the real stories of women in our community who are transforming their relationship with money through faith-aligned financial planning. This time we sit down with Amina, a doctor and mother who joined Her Islamic Finance almost four years ago and has been investing consistently ever since.

“I’m a doctor, lifelong learner, and mother who is passionate about building wealth in a way that aligns with my Islamic values. My goal is to use the blessings Allah has given me for my family, my community, and my akhirah. After joining HIF, I began my journey into halal investing and have been investing consistently ever since.”
In one word, how would you describe your money journey before joining HIF?
I was working long hours, so I barely had time to spend my money apart from holidays. That naturally helped me save, but I never thought about how to grow or invest my savings. I also grew up believing that all investing was haram.
As a doctor, you were already successful professionally. What made you realise that earning money isn’t the same as knowing what to do with it?
I often overheard colleagues discussing investing. As my salary increased over time, I realised that simply keeping money in a savings account wasn’t enough, so I started looking into other possibilities. Earning a good income is only one part of financial wellbeing.

It’s been almost four years since you first joined HIF. You’ve completed the program and have been investing for years now. Looking back, what do you think made the process feel simple enough to stick with?
The program is very beginner-friendly. No prior financial knowledge is required, which made it much easier for me to get started. Everything was explained step by step. Having Selvie available to answer questions and provide ongoing support also gave me the confidence to stay consistent.
Has entering motherhood changed the way you think about investing and long-term wealth?
Absolutely. Motherhood has made me even more focused on long-term investing so I can provide my children with a strong financial foundation. I hope, by the permission of Allah, to teach them that wealth is an amanah (trust). I want them to understand halal investing, generosity, and that money is a means to do good and a tool to support us, not something that defines us.

Investing is important, but what’s one thing you’ll happily spend on guilt-free?
Education and learning opportunities, books, healthy, high-quality food, sustainable furniture, gifts for loved ones, and donating food to those in need.
Is there a Quranic verse or hadith about money and wealth that inspires you?
“And seek, through what Allah has given you, the Home of the Hereafter, but do not forget your share of the world.” (Quran 28:77)
It reminds me that wealth is a blessing and a responsibility. We should use it wisely, for ourselves, our families, and to benefit others while keeping our ultimate purpose in mind.
What’s one lesson you’ve learned after investing consistently for several years?
Don’t panic. Invest with the long term in mind and accept that market fluctuations are normal. Staying consistent is more important than reacting emotionally.

If you could give one piece of advice to a sister thinking about joining a HIF program, what would it be? Would you recommend this course to her?
Definitely give it a try. Seeking beneficial knowledge is something our faith encourages. Financial knowledge is empowering, especially for women. It opens up opportunities, builds confidence, and supports greater financial independence. I would absolutely recommend the program.
Next big money goal for yourself?
To build a business and be able to work more independently.
